Bloodwood Trail
Looking for something to scare you right out of your skin during the Halloween season? Look no further than Rome, Georgia’s own haunted Bloodwood Trail, located off Painter Road, to provide all the thrills and chills you seek.
Bloodwood Trail is a seasonal haunted trail open during a limited time in October, and for Halloween in 2011 trail owner Jeff Barnett has plans to up the ante from last year’s attractions. Barnett said at least 40 “monsters” will be on the half-mile loop trail during this coming year’s tours.
“The real thing that sets us apart from everyone else is that we put you in the woods in the dark,” said Barnett. “No matter how much money you spend or how good a job the haunted house does, it’s not going to be as scary as the woods in the dark.”
The trail each year features characters of all kinds, but typically has frightening clowns, a cemetery and plenty of spider webs for guests to run into during their haunted trail experience. For the past seven years Barnett has been running the trail on his father’s property, and has only been charging for the trail experience for the past two years.
Though Barnett said he didn’t want to give away all the surprises for the coming season’s opening of Bloodwood Trail, he said that this year’s theme will focus heavily on zombies and exorcism.
“We plan on having a lot of fun with it this year,” Barnett said.
The “monsters” Barnett and partners Frankie Usry and Barnett's son Clay hires each year begin practicing for the seasonal event in September, and Barnett said they don’t stop trying to scare people until the last customer has left the trail.
Barnett said Ursy and Clay Barnett do a lot of the preparation work in order for the trail to be the success that it is. According to Barnett during last year’s season the two along with the cast of monsters did such a good job that Bloodwood Trail was forced to open a second trail in order to accommodate the number of customers wishing to experience the thrills for themselves.
Check back for more information and pricing for tours closer to the season’s beginning in October. When the trail opens, Barnett said tours will start at dusk and continue until the last customer passes through.
