Rome Movies

Village Theaters owner Dr. Gary L. Smith has a motto, according to vice president of operations Robin Miller: "movies are great medicine."

And with two theaters in operation - Rome Cinemas at 2535 Shorter Ave. and The Movies at Berry Square at 2820 Martha Berry Hwy. - that medicine is stronger than ever with 15 screens 11 of which feature stadium seating and 1 digital projection.

First purchased in 1985 by Dr. Smith, Village Theaters expanded in 1995 with the construction of The Movies at Berry Square. In 2003, Village Theaters again added onto their available screen space with the purchase and complete remodel of Rome Cinemas.

Currently, the theaters feature two 3D auditoriums at The Movies at Berry Square with stadium seating in 5 of the 9 auditoriums.

"The newest technology is out at Rome Cinemas, and it features the latest in digital projection," Miller said. "Every day the technology is changing. I've been in the business for 29 years and I've seen so many changes."

And even though the technology for watching movies at home is trying to catch up with what the theaters can offer, Marketing Director Debarah McCarley said movie theaters provide people with an experience they just can't get on the couch.

"For the entertainment value that we have, if you look at the cost of other entertainment available in Rome, it's going to cost you more than the money you'll spend here at the theater to watch a average of 2 hour movie," she said.

Miller also said that, "there's no place that you can go and pay around $9 to release yourself from the cares of the world."

The theaters also provide meeting space for corporate events and parties, and can accommodate groups as small as 10 or up to 1,000 people. Birthday party specials are also available for those looking for a unique birthday experience.

"We can hold business meetings as well with powerpoint presentations," Miller said.

Summer promotions include Summer Madness Movies with a schedule available on the website, featuring movies that are $6 per ticket with a coupon found on this website and www.romemovies.com.

Rome Cinemas also features the Summer Pop-n-Corn movies special, starting at 12:30 p.m. for $3 per person every Tuesday through Thursday. The deal also features popcorn and drinks for all ages. Check the website www.romemovies.com for the weekly movie schedule.

The box office at both locations The Movies at Berry Square and Rome Cinemas opens 15 minutes before the first movie of the day, and closes 15 minutes after the starting of the last movie of the day.

Ticket prices start with matinee hours before 6 p.m. with children 11 and under $7.25, seniors 55 and over $7.25, and adults 12 and older $7.75. After 6 p.m., prices Children 11 and under $7.25, seniors 55 and over $7.25, and adults 12 and older $9.25.
